Solar Slate Traditional

solar traditional new.png

Solar Slate Traditional is the original pioneering solution for solar power without the visual impact of conventional PV.

What makes Solar Slate different?

  • Solar PV is a perfect match with traditional slate

In size, colour and texture, Solar Slate Traditional is virtually indistinguishable from real slate (subject to slate selection).

  • Solar PV passes the toughest planning restrictions

Solar Slate Traditional is so convincing that it has been installed in conservation areas and on Grade 2 listed buildings.

Solar Slate’s technologies deliver solutions to a range of renewables ‘challenges’:

  • Solar PV projects with high aesthetic requirements
  • Solar PV in conservation areas and historical buildings
  • Solar PV in areas where planning permission is an issue

Green living – without the compromises

Using the latest photovoltaic (PV) technology, Solar Slate Traditional makes it possible to generate your own clean energy, thus lowering your carbon footprint and reducing your reliance on fossil fuels.

Yet Solar Slate Traditional is entirely inconspicuous, creating a solar array which is unobtrusive and won’t offend the neighbours.

Earn an income from your roof

By generating your own solar power, you can take advantage of the government’s Feed-In Tariff subsidy, which means extra income for every unit of electricity you produce and export.

In fact, a Solar Slate roof is an investment for the future – it increases the value of the building and delivers on-going savings on your energy bills.

Easy to install, easy to maintain

The plug-and-play construction of Solar Slate Traditional means that it’s simple to install.

Maintenance is also minimal. There are no moving parts. And all that’s required to ensure optimum generation of solar power is simple cleaning, to keep the slates clear of leaves and other debris.

10-year guarantee

Solar Slate Traditional offers the reliability of British design.

It has been wind-, rain- and fire-tested. It has been fully accredited by MCS, TUV and BABT. And it comes with a 10-year guarantee on both roof integrity and minimum performance.

Award-winning solar PV technology

Don’t take our word for it, though! Solar Slate Traditional has also won the award for ‘Product Innovation of the Year’ at the Low Carbon Performance Awards, organised by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineering (CIBSE).

Technical specifications

Each Solar Slate from the Traditional range measures 500mm x 256mm x 6mm and weighs 1.8Kg, just like a conventional roofing slate.

Within each slate, the area that generates electricity is around 35% of the total area (measuring approximately 170mm x 250mm). This means that, when installed into a roof with the advised batten pitch of 200mm–205mm, the cells are not overlapped.

A 6.5Wp per slate means that the output per m² is 130Watt peak. This is similar to any standard solar panel and more than other in-roof solutions on the market.

Our PV cells are mono-crystalline, back connected. The cell efficiency is 22.4% and therefore the best on the world market.

Roof requirements for Solar Slate Traditional:

  • Southerly orientation
  • Pitch over 27.5°
  • Sufficient space
  • No shading from trees, chimneys, dormers, etc.
